Università degli Studi di Trieste

The Università degli Studi di Trieste was founded in 1877.

Department of Biology

The Department of Biology, instituted in 1984 from the merging of the Botanical and Zoological Institutes, is one of the largest departments of the University. The field of research ranges from genetic engineering to numerical analysis of complex ecosystems, from the study of population dynamics and genetics to studies in cellular and molecular biology, physiology and ultrastructure.

The Department of Biology is the project leader of the Key to Nature EU project and leader of the Italian Project Dryades. Dryades is the Italian branch of KeyToNature. The website of Dryades gives access to interactive guides for the identification of plants, fungi and animals, to iconographical archives, and to databases on the biodiversity of Italy. A special section is dedicated to products specifically designed for schools.
